RJAMM3 Costume design by Benois, for the Russian Ballet ‘Petrushka’ 1910-11. The Ballet was composed by Igor Stravinsky. Michel Fokine choreographed the ballet; Benois designed the sets and costumes. Petrushka was first performed by Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on 13 June 1911. Alexandre Nikolayevich Benois (1870 – 1960) was a Russian artist, art critic, historian, preservationist, and founding member of Mir iskusstva (World of Art), an art movement and magazine.
